| In their repertoire, Vocal Baobab promote their own innovative interpretation of the Afro-Cuban chants, choral style, combining modern vocal arrangements with traditional Yoruban language. Their work aims to maintain the integrity and refresh with new spirit the best Cuban and Afro-Caribbean oral traditions, while increasing knowledge and appreciation of African and Afro-Cuban culture. Their initial research was supported by several prestigious experts on Cuban culture: Lázaro Ros, Natalia Bolívar, Zenaida Armenteros, Corina Campos and Miguel Barnet. They are also noted as rumba specialists (singing in Spanish), which they frequently merge with with the Yoruban repertoire. | ||

Vocal Baobab's dancers and percussionists perform Yoruba, Palo, Arará and Abakuá music, Cuban/Afro-Caribbean popular music and the Rumba complex (Yambú, Guaguancó and Colúmbia). Also included in the repertoire are pregones, dicharachos, cuartetas, songs in Portuguese, Cuban piano works and a recital of the poems of Nicolás Guillén, dramatised by dance and music. Shows usually culminate with the energy of Conga music from the Cuban carnival. |
